Tips For Staying Healthy While Traveling
It is summer now in Arizona, and many people are thinking of getting out
of town—to escape the heat, visit relatives, and so forth. Traveling
can be exhausting, and doesn’t always lend itself to the best food
choices on the way. After a day or so of junk food on the road you might
not feel your best, and airline travel carries with it some health issues
as well. So here are some tips to help you stay at your best while on the
move.
- Keep hydrated! Carry water with you in the car, and especially on
an airplane. While in the air, dehydration can occur, and while on the road
caffeine in sodas and coffee to keep you awake can steal away your body’s
fluid.
- Carry healthy snacks with you. In the car or on the plane you can
bring fruit that keeps (like apples), vegetables (like carrots), whole
grain pretzels or cheese sticks, for example.
- If you are traveling by car, try packing a picnic meal and stop at
a roadside rest-place. You can control what you eat, and sitting at a picnic
table can be fun.
- Choose restaurants wisely. Steer away from fast food and opt for
a regular “sit-down” meal if you can.
- Airport food can be hit-or-miss. Some have good eating places, while
others have mostly fast food. Packing a meal is a good idea. As long as you
don’t have liquids, you can easily bring food through security. Water
is always available on the other side, near the gates.
- Don’t worry about some goodies on the way. They can fit into
a fun travel time, just try to keep them to a minimum.
- Mostly, have fun on your trip!
