MIXfm Song Of The Month

What a world, what a life!

This month’s selection by Marty Bishop

Last time I wrote about a song in Good News Tucson, I went for meaning. Philosophy, meter, structure. Egghead stuff, as much as could be crammed into 200 words. But this month, I’m going for pure joy:

I've got the world on a string
I'm sitting on a rainbow
Got that string around my finger
What a world, what a life - I'm in love

Not exactly deep, is it? When you’re in love, the glass is always half full.

That’s a feeling that suits me well. Until last year, my favorite version of “I’ve Got The World On A String” was by Tony Bennett. But then I heard it sung live by Michael Bublé at the Tucson Arena, backed by a twelve piece swing band, in front of 8,000 roaring fans. It knocked me out! And every time I think of that recent evening, I want to call my wife and tell her I love her. (In my imagination, I’m wearing a tuxedo and dancing like Gene Kelly when I make this call.)

I've got a song that I sing
And I can make the rain go
Any time I move my finger
Lucky me, can’t you see - I'm in love

Marty Bishop
can be heard weekdays from 9am to 2pm
on Tucson’s Soft Rock station,
