Aaron Shust Talks With K-Love

K-LOVE: What inspired your song “Give Me Words to Speak”?

Aaron: Writer’s block was the inspiration. It was as simple and as dumb as that. I couldn’t think of anything to write about. This was before I had written any of the songs for my first album. I wasn’t signed to a label, but I enjoyed songwriting so much. Then, I went a full year and didn’t write a solitary thing, and I was beginning to question if I could. So I prayed to God, “Give me the words to speak. I can’t think of a thing.” And it has evolved into something that I pray backstage before I go out to perform. I ask the Holy Spirit to speak through me and give me the words to speak.

Aaron Shust – Give Me the Words to Speak

Album: Whispered And Shouted

Calloused and bruised/
dazed and confused
My Spirit is left wanting
something more
Than my selfish hopes/ and
my selfish dreams
I’m lying with my face down
to the floor
I’m crying out for more
Give me Words to speak
Don’t let my Spirit sleep
Cause I can’t think of
anything worth saying
But I know that I owe You

my life
So give me Words to speak
